It is more likely that we directly qualify to the World Cup by winning all of our group matches, than getting a play off spot via the Nations League. If we won our matches against Lithuania? Definitely

Remember when we qualified for EUROs we thought that group was stupidly hard? Then Serbia was terrible that season, Denmark was more or less our level, and with Portugal Ronaldo missed that first game. Yeah we had the 3 pts from the flag incident, but our performances dropped drastically after that result (1 pt in 3 games) because we couldn't handle pressure of being favorites. Even without flag, getting 1 win and 1 draw from 2 Serbia, 1 Denmark, and 1 Portugal home game was very possible.

I wouldn't lose hopes for a 2nd place, but yeah we should be realistic that this is a bad draw.

We have no chance through nations league , both Slovenia and Montenegro will fail for that 2* place.

If we were ranked right behind Hungary, I'd say we'd have a chance as both teams would go hard against Poland. As things stand we have ZERO chance.

Hungary’s coach is an Italian who used to coach Serie C and Hungarian teams. We’ll have two boring matches to watch . Both teams will play defensively with Hungary being more aggressive and confident based on their past result against us.

Hungary has a more balanced spread of value in comparison with that of Albania, which is totally concentrated in the defense/GK.

I mean besides those 3 relatively expensive players(one of them being a gk and another a CB btw) all of their players are valued at 1-2 million just like Albania. They definitely don't have an edge when it comes to squads on paper at least. If anything you could make a better case that Albania has an edge over them.

The main different is mentality and obviously coaching and organization. Hungary's coach would probably get sacked on the spot if he dared to say that they have no chance against England.

Yeah, you gotta be careful with those transfermarkt values, because it's only recent callups. Usually not full strength squad.

At full strength we're >100 million, but I'd rather have a 25 million striker right now than Strakosha lol. So how it's distributed, matters... A LOT.

Not to go too much into detail here, but after a certain point, the correlation between skill & market value is not linear anymore. Prices are very inflated at the higher end, which is not very indicative of overall team quality. A player can be worth 50 million more, just because he's 20% better than another player.

Talent wise we're probably just as good. They just have a disciplined and defensive squad. That Salzburg kid is also the real deal and he has world class potential. I'm also sure they probably won't cater their squad to guys like Manaj and Cikaleshi.

Because in their latest match all their top players were out. That stud from Salzburg is worth 25 million euros alone. Orban and their goalie are another 10 million each.

Talent wise on paper were probably just as good but they are a bit more cohesive as a unit. I actually think we'll do well against them because they're a defensive and organized team. It's us getting thrashed by England and handled by Poland. We're gonna have to get a win against Poland if we want a chance to qualify.

It also doesn't help that there will be two less playoff spots this time because of the UNL route.
