Milner confirmed as Reds' vice-captain
Brendan Rodgers today confirmed James Milner has been appointed as Liverpool's vice-captain.
The summer signing from Manchester City will serve as Jordan Henderson’s understudy for 2015-16, with the manager announcing the decision at his pre-Stoke City press conference on Friday afternoon.
Asked about the impact Milner has made since arriving at Anfield in July, Rodgers told reporters: “He is someone I admired from the outside for a long time. He’s played at this level since he was 16 years of age and has played for some fantastic clubs.
“He went to Man City and did a great job and when the possibility he was going to be available, obviously you’re surprised but then you’re hoping you can get him to come to your club because he’s the type of player who gives everything.
“His actual football talent has probably gone under the radar because he’s played around some outstanding talents, but this is a guy who works tirelessly at his game. He’s in here at 7.45am in the morning making sure he’s prepared for his training, getting all of his food supplements and getting everything correct before training – he’s in two-and-a-half hours before he trains and then does his work, gives his maximum. He prepares himself like an elite player should.

Target 'convinced he is joining Liverpool'
Adama Traore is convinced he will make a transfer to Liverpool, according to reports in Spain.
The Barcelona winger is thought to be on the cusp of a £4.2million move to Anfield, after several weeks of discussions.
The Reds look to have beaten off competition from Everton and Aston Vila in the race to sign Traore, and it is believed the Spain U19 international will complete a medical in the coming days.

Reds 'cleared to seal defender deal'
Liverpool appear clear to complete the transfer of Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Digne with the French outift reportedly actively searching for his replacement.
The Reds are said to be huge fans of Digne, 22, who has attracted the attention of several clubs after a consistent run in Ligue 1.
And Brendan Rodgers’ charge could be on the verge of signing the left back as, according to Fichajes, PSG are resigned to losing the France international and are currently lining up a move for a replacement defender.

Liverpool on red alert for France defender
Liverpool have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Digne.
The Reds have been linked with the move for the 22-year-old and are in desperate need of a left-back.
Brendan Rodgers only has Alberto Moreno and Jose Enrique in that area of the field, and will no doubt be looking to strengthen there.
Digne's agent Mikkel Beck has hinted his client wants to leave PSG to seek first-team football - something that Liverpool could offer.

U18s edged out by City on opening day
There was frustration for Liverpool U18s as they were edged out 1-0 away at Manchester City in their opening game of 2015-16.
The young Reds were unfortunate in the opening 45 minutes when Toni Gomes hit the post and captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, who made his first-team bow at Swindon last weekend, was denied at close range by a brilliant save from Danny Grimshaw.
City, under the command of former Blackburn Rovers star Jason Wilcox, grabbed the only goal of the game after the break when England youth international Lukas Nmecha pounced to beat Owen Wheeler.
Liverpool U18s: Wheeler, Whelan, Johnston, Parker (Lewis 82), Masterson, Phillips, Kane, Alexander-Arnold, Gomes, Ejaria (Nicholas 60), Dhanda. Subs not used: Dobie, George.
