Aha this is the one topic that keeps us going, we will rehash everything again in about 2-3 months. It's been like this for as long as I remember. The next game is not until June so what else are we gonna talk about in the meantime? :)

I'll worry about that when extremists start infringing on the daily lives of people in Albania. There's a difference between the head of a religious institution and individuals who decide to fight other peoples' wars. You can't do anything about the decision of an individual. However, something could have been done about Janullatos and nothing was ever done, and that speaks volumes.
If anything religion related happened in Albania i believe that it would have the worst reaction of all . Just this Wahabis stuff and i notice through albanian catholics a raise of conservatorism and islamophobic feelings , can't immagine the outcome if things that are happening in Kenya or northern africa/isis lands happened in Albania. I don't feel in speaking about this and probably is time to stop speaking about this, although i agree with most of your point i think that albanians shouldn't have any religion.
Yeah Catholics in the US are amongst the worst offenders when it comes to religious extremism amongst Albanians along with some extremists in certain parts of Ilirida (Tetova I think) and Kosove (Prizren). The most chill when it comes to religions are the Orthodox and the Bektashis, they are by and large non observant.

Berti wrote:The use of religion to point regional differences is pathetic. We all know the history behind the phenomenon inside mainland and outside. And certainly mainland Albos just cannot feel strongly about this, purely as we are far more ignorant towards religion. While for the Albos outside it has served as a great source of strength towards their fight to keep the identity going. Is one thing being agnostic and another bashing it due to feeling inferior from western propaganda.
However we still have to learn how to openly speak about this phenomenon without offending.
That picture for me is wrong. Not cos is a mosque, but cos is a religious institution and they are all wearing the albanian NT Jersey and it looks like an official visit. Let's not forget that not all Albos are muslim. But I do admit that I'm very ignorant in regards to faith and just cannot comprehend the idea of such belief.
What I think some people don't understand is that if you attack a particular group of people for their religious beliefs or whatever other beliefs they might hold they will cling even harder to those beliefs and become more radicalized in their views. You see that in some Arab countries that had a history of secularism after WWII like Egypt, Syria and Iraq. Due to the wars of invasion from the West those countries are embracing a radical version of Islam now and when you combine that with the poverty that is prevalent in the region it makes it a fertile ground for extremist views to take root.

In Kosove, Serbia made it plainly clear that it was fighting against this imaginary Islamic invasion of Europe and turned the conflict from an ethnic one into a religious one. Naturally Albanians there will cling to Islam in the aftermath of the war as it became part of their identity. The same goes in Ilirida where the Macedonians have turned to conflict between Macedonian and Albanians into a religious one.

You're partly right here mate, until the 90s Serbia managed to portrait Albanians in KS as backward stubborn muslims. After I. Rugova was elected as our leader he managed to change the view of the Westerns on Kosova for the better. So after the 90s as far as I'm aware the conflict in Kosova wasn't viewed as a religious one no matter how hard Serbia pushed it.

Plako has hit the nail on the head as always with the Latin phrase. And that's the reality. Virus, it's not the fact that Janullatos is greek. It's the fact that he is a greek with an anti-albanian agenda. Whatever his religious achievements in the country, they've all come with provocative sideshows. All greek right-wing have used him to spread their propaganda in the south. He is the most active religious leader politically, while all others never get involved ( until recently where the muslim clergy are on the defensive).
Only over a year ago on the 30th of nov 2013 while Albania was just waking up from the indipendence day party, he was organising a massive rally in Dervican where all attendees were wearing greek military shirts and chanting anti-albanian songs. And he held a mass with the famous orthodox gospel from Panagia I presume " Shqiperia eshte Greqi".
To talk about that man in any capacity than a thorn in religious pride is ludicrous. I could be here for months and still not cover how much damage that man has done

Zemi. the problem of Islam in Albania doesn't come from the mainstream mosques and its elected leadership. (Although the albanian authorities have always struggled to fully identify the money that finances them) It's the fact that this leadership is not really in charge and are not the most effective financially. They report far too many imams and mosques that are not part of their organisation. And the believers look for a stronger message and result to this outsider messengers. The rural areas in Albanian lands are too vulnerable and these people pay. In my opinion there has to be a proper review of religion in all Albanian lands with the purpose of clarity and plan on moving forward.
FYI, judging by your character you'd fit perfectly in the Bektashi community. Myself and Plako will be very happy to act as references and I guarantee you'd have a great time with Baba Mondi :). What religion you go inside the prayer temple sober and come out drunk? :)
