totti10 wrote:Maybe bout Xhaka to some degree , but Cana did sacrifice by choosing Albania you can't question that. Cana even with the club career he's had would of made it into that France 06 wc roster not to mention Switzerland.
Jupi is just being ignorant or maybe he's frustrated that there's no space in the Nt for players of his level anymore.
Jupi was never NT material. He may have been called up a few times as a fringe player due to our lack of depth. He was just a mediocre Superliga player.

Cana wouldn't even sniff the French team. It's true that his resume said "OM captain" but footballing wise he was just a butcher with ridiculously low technical ability(worst I've ever seen), easily the weakest link on that Marseille team and that's why Deschamps immediately took him out of the team as soon as he became coach(and they won the title that same season).
He could get a few caps for Switzerland and regularly make their bench but even Switzerland had much better midfielders like Behrami, Inler, etc.. With Albania he guaranteed play time, a NT career and legend status. No doubt about it.
As far as Jupi and the NT go, he was obviously a scrub. I believe his peak was making the Turkish league but then again right now we have Turkish league benchwarmers starting for the NT so it's not like the level now is that high.

Jupi is stupid! Man he was even header of the youth office. He gave two interviews so far that were unneccessary because noone gains from it. This way you just ruin the balance inside the team , the header of youth office should be a person who can make compromisses and try to approach players . The FA should hire people with brokerage experiences and mediate with players although we all know that we are the second choice for most of our diaspora kids who have a chance to reach their naturalized country nationalteam.

People seriously overrate Lorik Cana. Anybody who thinks he could have been playing for France is delusional.
Anyways Jupi isn't wrong with what he said but obviously people want him to say the usual cliched stuff.

There's nothing wrong with staying humble even if you don't like Lorik the footballer, hell neither do I. But downgrading his love for the NT shirt by stating he didn't sacrifice when choosing Albania you're not to be taken seriously.
Only things he was sure to have with Albania is playing in a potato field and receiving a cold shower after every home game. You know one serious injury at the beginning of his NT career and we'd have another Besart Berisha case. You see Besart as a NT legend?
Now you prove to me how playing for Albania(when he debuted ) was more prestigious than playing for France U21 at the time? Cana was a very good classic defensive midfielder with very good tactical awareness. He had very good club seasons prior to the 2006 WC.
Overall France's squad in that WC was very old and desperate for new blood and nobody forsaw them reaching the final in that tournament.
Lyon was dominating the French league at the time and it was full of non French players. No way Cana would've been overlooked when you had guys like Dohrasso and Alou Diarra making that WC roster. Domenech would've even known Cana from the French U21 as he'd have already coached him at that level. And speaking of Switzerland is not worth it imo, they were so desperate for good players at the time they had to steal Behrami from our hands, who by the way played as a RB.
Deschamps might not like pure destroyers like Cana and he won the French league. Ancelotti won the Chl with Gattuso and Lippi won a WC. Kace is a very technical player but De Biasi preferes Abrashi to him. Coaches differ.
Redi Jupi is talking out of his ass

Cana may have had a few caps for France earlier in his career but that's about it. As for Switzerland that's a different story and I think you're discrediting Cana if you don't think he could have been a regular for them. Don't forget when Cana was in his prime Switzerland weren't as strong as they are currently. No reason not to think he'd be a key player in their 2006 WC and 2008 Euro squads atleast. Maybe his career play would have been different as he'd have more connections and have more motivation? But this is really a pointless discussion.
It's kind of funny though because I noticed alot of these former superliga players that were poor NT players seem resent the diaspora players and advocate for Salihi, Bulku, Lila, and Villa(Previously). Imo, alot of times these guys are being called up because they're good friends with the former superliga scrubs who have positions within FSHF. Basically these guys are advocating for their "own" but we know that they're going extinct fortunately. Salihi and Bulku are just there to be locker room presence and to talk to the media so the diaspora players don't have too. After this campaign(Bulku won't make the squad, Salihi is questionable) these guys will all be gone and it will be an end of an era metaphorically speaking.

I think both Cana and Xhaka could have made France/Switzerland squads. Whether they would be regular starters is another issue.
Cana would have been a starter for Switzerland no doubt though. If LedZep complains about him being a butcher, then he clearly hasn't seen Behrami, who was just a poor man's Marseille Cana. Behrami has 0 footballing iq.
Jupi should just stfu though. Guy barely played for some Turkish teams.

Oh please you're making Jupi like he is some outspoken rebel. He's nothing but a Duka sycophant and is a walking cliche. Just listen to his interviews on Procesi Sportiv.

I don't think you've ever seen Cana in midfield. He had a heart attack every time he was on the ball.. You wont find a more clumsy/awkward midfielder than him. We make fun of Abrashi and Bulku due to their technical limitations but Cana was much worse. Thank goodness he converted into a CB or else he would be playing in the Turkish 2nd division right now. Behrami is a butcher but he can make the simple pass and has the basic technical level required to go along with his vigorous playing style. Cana as a midfielder was bad....like REALLY REALLY bad. Highly doubt he would make the Swiss team, never mind the French which is out of the question.
Albania gave him a NT career which is something all players want.
