A muslim guy with a catholic last name. You don't see that too often. Like that one actor Enver Gjokaj. I mostly see the reverse from personal experience.

I have a muslim surname but we are catholic, a "fis" of our mehalle that lives in Peje have catholic surname and are muslim (cousins 8 generations of mine ) . Many of Hadergjonajsh are catholics though.

Yeah same with me. Four generations of my family were muslim. My great great great great great great grandfather's name was Hasan.

Just a question/comment out of curiosity. I have noticed recently that there's been a resurgence of religion in Albania. Growing up there I never really ever knew of anyone that was heavily religious one way or another. And often I heard the older generation say we're Muslim, or we're catholic. My own parents did the same. It's almost as if they think religion is passed down by blood, and not just a belief system that anyone can "subscribe" to. Personally, I have never met practicing religious Albanians. I didn't know anyone who regularly attends churches or mosques. I understand that this recent resurgence is most likely a result of the billions spent by Arab countries to spread the reach of Islam around the world, but I have never found Albanians to be deeply religious people in my personal experience. Of course, providing schooling/funds/aid, and building mosques in the main squares of major cities will invariably have an effect on the local population. I guess I'm more curious about the Albos who live abroad.

When you guys say I'm catholic, or bektashi, or muslim, are you actually those things? Do you practice? Do you follow the teachings/practices/rules?

Andi theres definitely been a resurgence. When i grew up there no one really cared about religion. Now youre seeing women in veils popping up here and there. Most people dont seem care as to them its all fringe, but when I hear stories about Syria and Egypt being secular and then turning into the shitholes they are today it kinda scares me. Thank god Hoxha banned religion to the point i dont think well ever get there, and the 1/3 Christian part keeps the balance in check. But if it changed that much in 10 years and Arabic/Turkish influence keeps growing, it can cause some serious problems. I unlike a lot of people can see the difference between personal belief and adopting toxic foreign cultures.

The main problem that a lot of analysts make is that Albania was isolated for so long that its branch of Islam greatly differed. But now with globalization Albanian Islam is being replaced with Arabic Islam.

nope I personally don't believe in God and technically I'm an atheist. however, I believe that religion that was passed on to the family for generations cannot be discounted as it's been a major influence that has shaped who I am as a person today.

Right. I agree on all the points you made. I don't judge people on what they choose to believe, but I'm more and more realizing that we are losing national identity and replacing it with religious identity. A religion that is not ours to start of with. None of them are. "Feja e Shqiptarit osht Shqiptaria" no longer applies. Nor that it ever did to be honest. Albanians are and have always been self-serving mercenaries.

Plako, that's what I figured. My family is the same. Religion is good for teaching basic values, like right vs. wrong etc, which truthfully can be taught without it. But again, right vs. wrong is all subjective. What's right to me, is wrong to someone else. Either way, I like to believe that there is a higher being. But religion in general is far too toxic, far too fluid, far too successful as a manipulation tool to usurp the masses for it to ever hold any appeal for me personally.

Anyway, we can back on topic. Is Kosova gonna win its first official friendly today or what?
