I requested the link now to the admins so you could watch it . I was in Albania at the time , left the stands at half time. The ref had already fixed the result. This season seems Korabi will get promoted

Maybe it was one of those gatherings a day or two before the wedding when the men from both sides meet eachother and likewise with the women(I don't know what this is actually called) and when they exchange gifts, offer cigerates, drinks, snacks? That's common and I don't know if Albanians from the RA do that.

As for the no alcohol that's somewhat common tbh.
Well not sure if it was during the actual wedding and could very well be what you described. In Albania this used to be common practice 50-60 years ago but the Commies did away with these customs and other Orientalisms like the veil and the marriage of daughters at a young age.

You cannot believe the pressure the Communists would put on people to change their customs, especially the Islamic ones. There were propaganda movies about interfaith marriages (Moslem and Catholics in Shkoder) and any religious display was not only frowned upon but dealt with severely by he secret police. Anyone seen praying at home would be called to the police. It was an insane time but one that left a lasting imprint on the populace. So to most of us any outward display of religious behavior is frowned upon. Since many Albanians from former Yugoslavia are more religious than us you will get cultural Marxists like Owner who will freak out. I feel the same way about the resurgent Islam in Albania proper but I usually keep these thoughts to myself and try not to make a big deal about its

The only good thing the communists did was educate our people. Enveri raised the literacy rate to near 100%, educated the katundars.

I have no problem with muslim Albanians myself even though I'm Catholic. It's just I hate the following types of Muslims:

- Turkophiles
- Arabophiles

When I see Albanians writing in Arabic script I just got such an itch to pick up my pushk and start some gjakmarrje..

To me, being a proud muslim and a proud albanian are oxymoronic and I know that's a probably not a popular opinion around here.. Some of the most proud muslim Albanians I know honestly do look like they just came off the boat from Turkey..

Do any of you guys know who Fahri Xharra is? He has some great unintentionally hilarious posts. Especially when he brings up religion.

I wasn't even talking about religion in general. I was responding to your point about Albanians who are Orthodox and conflating that with Greeks. It's fucking retarded and only Turkophiles would think that way. It's like saying Austrian Catholics are Italian. There is 0 excuse for that type of stupidity, unless those Orthodox were pro-Greek, which there isn't a single person that I've come across. There is this notion that somehow Albanian Orthodox are pro-Greek which is fucking stupid. The number of Muslims who are Turkophiles and Arabophiles on the other hand is way worse. To make those comparisons is a false equivalency if I've ever seen one.

Yeah that whole conflating religion with ethnicity is one the most cringy and head scratching things about Albanians. I'll seriously never understand it. Like owner said if you were to tell an Austrian he was an Italian or italian wannabe they would look at you like you're retarded.

I agree but then again we've had an ethnic Greek for almost 25 years at the head of the Albanian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. There is also a Greek minority in Albania and Greek right-wing circles claim that Southern Albania belongs to Greece. It's a bit different from the Austrian-Italian comparison presented by Owner. There is a reason why Catholic Albanians are not referred to as "Italian" by these same people. Not sure how good your Albanian is but if you can understand it I can post a video and you can judge for yourself whether some Orthodox are pro-Greek or not.

Also Owner, while you are chastising people for claiming that the orthodox are pro-Greek you on the other hand call them Turkophile and Arabophile. Talk about double standart.

You can post the video but not because I think you're lying or anything. I do have a bizarre fascination when it comes to Albanians and religion. So I would like to see that.

I also agree with your last part. I may disagree with a lot of religious albanians but I would never call someone a Greek or a Turk just because they have a certain religion. The actual thing I like about Albanians is that there are Sunni, Bektashi, Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox etc.

As I mentioned that's a false equivalency. There are no hundreds of Albanian Orthodox waging fucking holy wars and joining militant groups that chop off heads in the name of Orthodoxy. There are no Albanian Orthodox people going to Syria to fight with Syrian Orthodox people. And I KNOW the majority of Muslims aren't Arabophiles, but a huge chunk are. That's a fact. That doesn't exist for Catholic or Orthodox communities. I know you'd like to make everything equal, but it's just not true.

On your Greek thing. I know there are nationalist Greeks who think southern Albania and whatnot is Greek. But you're also confusing Greek minorities in Himara, which of some I've met, and no they're not Albanians who are lying in the census, with Albanian Orthodox, which have nothing to do with each other, apart from the name of two religions that have little in common. That's like saying Bosniaks and Albanians are the same thing. And Januto whatever his name was was put there by Berisha, and people have protested against him. But it's not a democracy. What are they supposed to do kill him off?
