Mehmeti not even on the bench for Ipswich. They signed a bunch of prem level players like Encico. This is why I don't buy in the championship hype. A 2nd division is still a 2nd division.
Meanwhile while Albanians struggle to play for relegation teams Tzolis was the best player for Arsenal. Greece's golden generation looks insane.

Golden generation is a stretch. Turkey is solid. They have 2 or 3 elite players and no striker at all. They were always around that level.Raketa wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2026 3:35 pm Turkey had a golden generation too but dude from the championship put them away..
In the WC they showed their potential. They dominated every game but their lack of striker hurt them. They still beat USA.
Greece has 5-6 players who could play in top clubs right now and they are all very young.

Greece is probably like Poland in terms of squad quality.

They dominated so hard they ate 3 goals scored 0 then took home a massive consolation prize against USA B.ReyM9 wrote: Sat Aug 22, 2026 6:35 pm

No chance. Poland is in decline. In terms of talent they are closer to Albania than Greece.

Mehmeti was left out of the squad last game. They are trying to move him back to the Championship.
Moving to Ipswich in January was a bad decision for him. He had interest from Serie A teams, where he could have secured a place immediately, but it was very foreseeable that he would be replaced. Promoted Premier League teams strengthen massively in their first summer.
They signed him in January mainly as an extra reinforcement to help them get promoted, it was always a risk and predictable he would not stay there long. He needs to continue to develop to be ready for the Prem. Hopefully he does still get a move to Serie A or another top5 league so we can see him in the big leagues because he has already proven himself in the Championship and I don't think he has much to gain returning there.

It's a dark time for Albanian players. They usually start seasons strong but this time most of them are on benches and stands. Some of them (Hysaj, Asllani) have disappeared from earth. That Muci to Salah assist was the only positive thing.
